How to use your food card

A few things translation can miss

A vegetable dish may still contain lard, meat stock or oyster sauce. The vegetarian and vegan cards name these ingredients explicitly. “No chilli” is separate from “no Sichuan pepper”, so you can ask for either or both.

Halal is about ingredients and preparation, not simply avoiding pork. This card asks staff to confirm; it does not certify a restaurant.

For allergies, show the card before ordering and ask staff to check the kitchen. A translation card cannot guarantee an allergen-free meal. The CDC’s guidance for travellers with severe allergies explains why ingredients and cross-contact both matter.
